Walking around campus

The last couple of days, I've been busy trying to assemble all the little pieces that make up a life that I didn't pack. You'd be surprised how easy it is to find t-shirts here, and how hard it is to find Swiss army knives. Anyway, most of that is taken care of, I just have to find a place that sells non-peeling bath towels and I'm all set. Today (and ok, most of the last 2 days as well) I strolled around campus and took in sights of old buildings mixed with lush green groves. Here are the main library and the famous clock tower (the view of the clock tower in the last picture is from LBL, which gives you an idea of how steep a hill you have to walk to get up there).

As you can see, the sky is bluuuuuuue. The weather here is kinda funny, mornings and evenings are actually a bit chilly, but once the sun has chased off the Bay fog, the days are hot and the sun scorches like on Crete. The campus is quite impressive, well-kept and incredibly green. Of course, some of the trees are American sized.

Just walking around is a quite interesting experience, you think you're lost, and all of a sudden you stumble upon something like Founder's Rock, or some huge red trucks that have hauled PA systems from Chicago to the campus amphitheater.

I'll end this post with a confession... I've done the fast food thing non-stop since I got here. It's quite confusing when a roll of sushi is cheaper ($2.95 + taxes & tips for a six piece roll) in a restaurant than the ingredients are at the local Trader Joe's.
