One thing you cannot miss around here is the school spirit. It's everywhere around you - in stores, in cafes, in pubs, on campus, in minds, and on people. According to my highly scientific measurements, which are based on random sampling of unrelated observations under the influence of bagels, one in three persons on campus are sporting some kind of Cal gear. More than one in two establishments where money can be traded for caffeine or utility goods display some kind of supportive statement for one or more of the local sport teams. And when in conversation casually asking a store owner or clerk, you are more than likely to get a knowledgeable answer about any of the upcoming sporting events. At least when asking a local. In fact, when bringing it up with a UCB alumni on the street the other day, I was advised that wearing Cal gear, one is always dressed correctly. At least on campus. I guess it is because they really have something to be proud of! To provide a brief taste of the school spirit, here are a few pictures of the baseball field, the memorials by the entrance to the gym, and the Cal gear section of a local clothing store. One of the about 20 or so clothing, drug, and grocery stores (not to mention book shops, plural!) I've seen carrying Cal gear so far. Go bears!
